Mohammad Fazel, MD, PharmD
Dr. Fazel is a native Tucsonan and lifelong Wildcat
Prior to medical school, Dr. Fazel graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology. He then graduated from the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy with a Doctorate of Pharmacy, earning Rho Chi distinction. Following pharmacy school, Dr. Fazel completed a pharmacy residency at the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System.
Dr. Fazel graduated with AOA distinction from the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson. He completed his internal medicine intern year and dermatology residency at the University of Arizona. His vast experience in providing healthcare to a wide variety of patients in Tucson has given Dr. Fazel great insight into Arizona’s population and unique dermatologic challenges.
Homegrown Expertise
Dr. Fazel holds doctorate degrees in medicine and pharmacy. This foundation of knowledge allows for the evaluation of the patient as a whole including medication safety evaluation, evidence-based treatment plans, and diagnostic expertise.
Dr. Fazel is a board-certified dermatologist and Mohs micrographic dermatologic surgeon. Dr. Fazel spent four years as an academic dermatologist at the University of Arizona. During this time, Dr Fazel ran a high-risk skin cancer clinic within the Cutaneous Oncology Program and served as a member of the Cutaneous Oncology Tumor Board.
Service, Education, and Research
Clinical teaching of medical students and dermatology residents is a passion that Dr. Fazel holds dear. As a dermatology resident, he served as a chief resident during his final year of residency. Following residency, during his time at the University of Arizona, Dr. Fazel regularly supervised residents and medical students. This included staffing resident clinics, overseeing the inpatient dermatology consult service, serving as the primary mentor for dermatology research fellows, and regularly completing research projects with medical students and residents. Dr. Fazel’s clinical and academic teaching was awarded the University of Arizona Dermatology Residency Program Faculty Teaching Award.
Service to the community has always been important to Dr. Fazel. He has regularly volunteered his time to the community including providing free skin exams during the annual University of Arizona Skin Cancer Institute Melanoma Walk. Dr. Fazel volunteers on a regular basis at the University of Arizona Commitment to Underserved People Dermatology Clinic.
A Personal Approach
Dr. Fazel’s clinical focus and areas of interest include high-risk medical dermatology, including autoimmune and rheumatic skin diseases, procedural dermatology, cutaneous oncology and general dermatology.
His goal is to provide empathetic, personal, and compassionate care with open communication and shared decision-making. Dr. Fazel strives to provide patients the comfort to ask questions, have their concerns addressed, and feel empowered to serve as an active member of their care.
